INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE
Hi!
Welcome to OEC3127 Understanding Computing
OEC3127 covers with general introduction to computing field including computing disciplines, evolution of computing field, computing professions, professional bodies in computing, computing security, ethics and code of conduct and computing portfolio. Specifically, the course provides the students with an overview of the computing disciplines and computing societies; knowledge of workplace and graduates expectations and career opportunities and development of soft skills. This course also introduces the student with hands-on experience through field trip to the relevant IT organization, report writing and teamwork.
The objective of this course:
• to help students gain an overview of the field that they have chosen to be involved in.
• to develop essential knowledge and study skills that will help them perform well as a tertiary student.
• to initiate the development of soft skills such as team work, communication and organisation skills.
CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT SCHEDULE
This course is assessed by both coursework and examination.
Coursework Percentage: 40%
Examination Percentage: 60%
